2009 NAIC names liaison representatives of consumers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (February 25, 2009) - The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) has recently appointed its funding and liaison with representatives of consumers not funded for 2009. Thirteen representatives of consumers participated in the program funded in 2008, while three are new to the program this year.
"The 2009 NAIC consumer representatives represent a wide range of experiences and expertise with issues related to insurance," said NAIC President and New Hampshire Insurance Commissioner Roger Sevigny. "Their knowledge will help to shape regulatory decision-making - and we continue to ensure consumers' concerns at the forefront of our discussions. "
Established in 1992, the program encourages interaction with the consumer NAIC members, the insurance industry and interested parties by the "dedication and commitment to serve the public interest.
The 2009 NAIC liaison funded consumer representatives are:
Betty Ahrens: Executive Director, Iowa Citizen Action Network
Amy Bach: Executive Director, United Police
Birny Birnbaum: Executive Director, Center for Economic Justice
Pamela J. Bolton: * Director of Policy and Research, Texas Watch
Brendan M. Bridgeland: Director of Research Center for Insurance
Brenda J. CUDE: Professor, University of Georgia
Evelyn Dacalos Gay (Langgasse): Project Director, Project for the rights of the elderly, Georgia Legal Services
Bonita A. Kallestad: Attorney at Law, Mid-Minnesota Legal Assistance, Western Minnesota Legal Services
Kitt Karrol Associate Professor, University of Texas at Austin
Sonja L. Larkin-Thorne *: Avon, Connecticut
Kevin P. Lembo: State health lawyer, the State of Connecticut, Office of the Advocate Health Care

In addition, the NAIC has appointed a representative consumer unfunded: Howard Goldblatt, who is director of public affairs for the Coalition against insurance fraud.
