An Encino chiropractor and her legal assistant were arrested Thursday and charged with two counts each of insurance fraud after an investigation by the California Department of Insurance Fraud Division.
Chiropractor Nasrin "Nancy" Hadizadeh Fathi, 43, and legal assistant Behrouz Beck Saffary, 51, were booked at the Los Angeles County Jail and bail was set at $40,000 for each of them. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office is prosecuting the case.
In February of the last year the CDI received complaints that Fathi was overbilling insurance companies for work that she never performed, prompting the Fraud Division to launch an undercover investigation into Valley Spine Clinic.
Investigators found that Fathi and Saffary's law office sent inflated bills or settlement demands to at least two companies for over $31,000.
