Twin cities' drivers and conductors to revive their association

The Public Transport Staff comprised on drivers and conductors of transport of twin cities have announced to revive Umeed Driver Conductor Public Transport Welfare Association and started membership and collecting data of all Public Transport Staff.
President Umeed Driver Conductor Public Transport Welfare Association, Faisal Abbasi and other office-bearers of the association in a press release said that more than 3,000 wagons and Suzuki are plying on roads in twin cities and nearly 8,000 staff of public transport work under the difficult circumstances.
Declaring Muttahida Transport Federation as organization of owners, they underlined that Rs. 20 to 50 is being charged from drivers by owners' organizations on daily basis and the audit of that amount never happened.
They said that drivers and conductors get nothing in case of any emergency from Rs. 3 million collected from them monthly. They demanded of the government to award the status of Public Transport Staff to drivers and conductors, a proper uniform, Social Security Registration and facilities of health and insurance.
They also demanded of Punjab Government not to ignore Public Transport Staff in taking important decisions regarding transport.
