Motorists who do not want to end up relying on their car insurance policy's breakdown cover should take their vehicle for servicing before going away over the Easter weekend, it has been claimed.

According to Motor Codes, drivers who do not ensure their autos are in tiptop condition could be facing expensive repairs or a long wait at the roadside.

It pointed out the amount spent on a service is likely to be considerably less than having to take a vehicle to a garage for repair after breaking down on the motorway.

Chris Mason, Motor Codes director, said: "This is a very busy period for road users and probably the worst time of year to have the worry of being delayed due to a lack of minor maintenance."

Last month, the group claimed the Motor Industry Code of Practice for Service and Repair was helping to reduce the number of complaints made about garages.
