May 6--APPLE VALLEY
--A former Apple Valley resident has been arrested for an auto insurance fraud scam, officials said Tuesday.
San Bernardino County District Attorney's investigators arrested Scotty Stanton, 42, of Los Angeles and formerly of Apple Valley, after they determined he filed an inaccurate and misleading insurance claim. He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.
In August 2007, Stanton called the Los Angeles Sheriff 's Department and reported that his SUV was burglarized while v i s i t i n g h i s m o t h e r i n L os Angeles. He filed an insurance claim with State Farm Insurance for damage to the vehicle and stolen electronic items.
Investigators with the District Attorney's Auto Insurance Fraud Unit say Stanton misled the insurance company and fabricated a story about some of the electronics allegedly installed in his SUV to be over-compensated on the insurance claim.
His bail is set at $50,000.
