Fraud in the name of car insurance has started again in Hassan Abdal after a lapse of two years. Money grabbing is on full swing at a check post set up in the name of car insurance for the sake of commission and the people have strongly protested on the issue.
According to details, for last many days four people are insuring vehicles under the supervision of police. They plied in a private vehicle number LRL 5600. On their arrival on the spot local journalists found a police constable stopping vehicles on the road. One of the four people was in police uniform. They introduced themselves as the agents of "Asian Insurance Company" and forcefully grabbed money from the people giving threats of heavy fines and seizing the vehicle.
Talking to the media persons, truck drivers Saeed Jadoon, Muhammad Hameed, Kami Khan, Hashim Ali and Nadeem marked that this was the first ever incident of grabbing money in the name of insurance on the roads. Earlier, a vehicle was insured in 150 rupees but now they were charging 500 to 600 rupees. One person told that rupees 400 were being demanded for his new bank leased insured vehicle. A Suzuki driver claimed that he refused to pay 400 rupees inspite of threat to seize his vehicle on non payment.
In 2009, DPO Attock called to halt this scam due to the complaints of the people against the said insurance company. People demanded from the CM of Punjab and other higher ups to save the people from this misery and immediately stop this episode of grabbing money in the name of insurance by pressurizing them for the sake of commission.
The DSP Wah Cantt told when contacted that the said persons requested legal aid in the name of the insurance company. That's why a police constable was given to them.
The people claiming to be the representatives of the said company refused to provide any details to the media persons and threatened of extreme consequences and also offered money. According to the documents presented to the DSP Hassan Abdal from the same persons two years ago, the said company which was in the name of Ahsan Ullah Ghouri, Chairman PPP Welfare Committee Multan and some other persons, got permission from the government to place reflectors on the vehicles and to check their insurance for the welfare of the people and which was valid till 2011. While Asian Mutual Insurance Company recruited an assistant area manager named Zaheer Abbas who sorted out an easy way out to get the commission by forcefully insuring the vehicles instead of putting the reflectors on them.
