The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency presented USAA with the National Flood Insurance Program’s Administrator’s Quill Award.
This award recognizes the company that writes the highest number of flood insurance policies within a given year.
USAA received its award during FEMA’s 2009 National Flood Conference in Boston.
The government encourages insurers to take an active role in promoting flood awareness and the importance of buying flood coverage.
FEMA is the lead federal agency that prepares for, protects, responds to, recovers from and works to mitigate natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other man-made disasters.
Phoenix-based USAA, which also has corporate offices in San Antonio, provides property and casualty insurance to members of the U.S. military and their families.
