Chicago, IL (Vocus) July 20, 2009 -- As the economy continues to sag, families are looking for ways to cut expenses wherever they can. Typically one of the first large expenses to go is various types of insurance - especially car insurance. Not only is this dangerous and can end up costing much more than cheap car insurance rates, but in many states, driving without insurance is illegal. CheapCarInsurance.org recommends searching for the cheapest car insurance quotes and then choosing cheaper car insurance premiums rather than dropping coverage.
As the economy continues to decline, so is the number of insured motorists. A recent study by the Insurance Research Council found that for every one percent increase in the unemployment figures, the number of uninsured motorists increases by about three quarters of a percent. With these statistic, the study estimates that the number of drivers on US roads without insurance will increase to 16% by 2010.
In Illinois alone, there are 1.3 million uninsured motorists on the streets. If anyone of these drivers is convicted of driving without insurance, they will face an automatic three month suspension of their driver's license and must pay a reinstatement fee of $100. In addition, there is an amendment to the law that penalizes uninsured motorists with a find of $500 to $1,000.
Even more damaging would be if an uninsured motorist was in an accident. The costs out of pocket and possible litigation could push a financially sound person into personal bankruptcy. Considering the consequences of driving without insurance, drivers should be looking for cheap car insurance rates by comparing the cheapest car insurance quotes rather than driving without coverage.
If a driver is injured in an accident with an uninsured motorist, this driver could spend years in court fighting to receive compensation for injuries and damages - which they may never collect at all. One way a person can protect themselves from this type of situation is to add coverage to their insurance policy to called Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage. This additional coverage will pick up the tab on unpaid damages and expenses from an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist. This coverage is typically inexpensive to add to any policy.
The quickest and easiest way to find the cheapest car insurance quotes is to compare rates online. CheapCarInsurance.org recommends obtaining quotes from multiple insurance agents, then comparing the plans and prices. Choose the policy that offers the most complete coverage at the lowest possible rate. Finding cheap car insurance rates is much less expensive than the alternative.
