WASHINGTON—David A. Sampson, president and CEO of the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), issued the following statement on the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.):
“Senator Kennedy was one of the most consequential Senators in the history of our great nation. Whether you agreed or disagreed with his point of view, it was well known that his word was his bond. Senator Kennedy worked across the aisle to form partnerships and friendships with Republicans as well as Democrats and crafted historic legislation that impacted countless citizens across America. His leadership, his bipartisanship, and his passion for our nation will be greatly missed. We at PCI mourn his passing and offer our heartfelt condolences to his family and all those who loved and admired him.”
PCI is composed of more than 1,000 member companies, representing the broadest cross-section of insurers of any national trade association. PCI members write over $180 billion in annual premium, 37.4 percent of the nation’s property casualty insurance. Member companies write 44 percent of the U.S. automobile insurance market, 30.7 percent of the homeowners market, 35.1 percent of the commercial property and liability market, and 41.7 percent of the private workers compensation market.
