Washington, DC - On Tuesday, Rep. Ben Ray Lujan held a telephone town hall on health insurance reform. Almost 2,200 New Mexicans joined the call to ask questions and discuss health insurance reform issues of interest to them. Rep. Lujan took questions that covered broad range of topics. The telephone town hall was held the first day that Congress returned to session following the district work period. During the district work period, Rep. Lujan participated in one town hall and held ten Congress on Your Corners in communities throughout the 3rd Congressional District.
"Last night's telephone town hall was just one more way for me to reach out to New Mexicans and talk with them about health insurance reform," said Rep. Lujan. "It was an opportunity for me to explain my views on health insurance reform and answer questions from residents across the district. We had callers from Espanola, Santa Fe, Taos, Clovis, Portales, Bloomfield, Rio Rancho and many other communities in the 3rd Congressional district on the telephone town hall."
During the call, Rep. Lujan addressed concerns and misconceptions about the legislation currently before the House of Representatives, including concerns about the legislation covering undocumented immigrants. He also explained how the legislation will be paid for and its impact on those with pre-existing conditions. He repeatedly expressed his strong support for a robust public option, explaining that a robust public option will decrease costs and increase choice.
