Agreement Brings Paralysis Device to Medical Facilities

A device to treat partial leg paralysis has been made available to patients in a national network of orthotic and prosthetic facilities through an agreement with Bioness Inc., designer and manufacturer of the device.

Valencia-based Bioness developed the device to treat foot drop by stimulating the muscles and nerves that lift the foot. The agreement will make the device available to 1,300 independently-owned and operated orthotic and prosthetic facilities.

Members of the Orthotic & Prosthetic Group of America participating in the Bioness program will be trained to evaluate and fit patients, offer the device for home use and refer patients for follow-up therapy to a Bioness-trained rehabilitation facility.
