President Obama formally announced the grant program today at the National Institutes of Health.
The stimulus grants are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which provides an unprecedented $8.2 billion in extramural funding to the National Institutes of Health to help stimulate the U.S. economy through the support and advancement of scientific research that has the potential for making scientific progress within two years.
“The stimulus funds provide a fantastic opportunity to expand or complete projects that will contribute to the health and well-being of our state and nation. The funds supplement the already growing number of federal grants received by our researchers at the OU Health Sciences Center and will contribute to our ability to maintain research excellence,” said Joseph J. Ferretti, Ph.D., senior vice president and provost of the OU Health Sciences Center.
