    6 teams compete to design black history museum WASHINGTON (AP) _ Six design teams _ all with prominent black principals _ will compete for two months to design a national black history museum on the National Mall, the Smithsonian Institution announced Thursday. The National Museum of African American History and Culture will likely be the last new museum building on the grounds between the Washington Monument and Capitol. The design finalists have created structures that include the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem, the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco and an expanded Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York.

    Connick Jr. braves a big chill while filming movie NEW YORK (AP) _ According to Harry Connick Jr., winter in Canada counts as a fifth season. While filming the romantic comedy "New in Town" in Winnipeg last January, the actor's face, beard and eyelashes froze in the subzero temperature. "This was just a different level. I mean, for real," Connick Jr. said Tuesday. "You can't function. ... I mean, this is the kind of weather where if you stay out there, you're not gonna make it, you know?"

    Heath Ledger insurance suit settles LOS ANGELES (AP) _ An agreement has been reached in a lawsuit involving Heath Ledger's $10 million life insurance policy. The confidential settlement was revealed in court documents filed Wednesday in Los Angeles. Ledger's attorneys are seeking a closed hearing next month to establish a court guardian to represent the actor's 3-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose, who is the policy's beneficiary.

    Michelle Obama's brother working on a book NEW YORK (AP) _ Michelle Obama's brother is working on a book, part tribute to his family and part inspirational guide. "I've been privileged to know some extraordinary people in my life," Craig Robinson, whose "A Game of Character" will be published next year by Gotham Books, said in a statement issued Thursday. "I've watched as my sister Michelle, a rock of a mother, became a leader in her own right. My brother-in law, President Barack Obama, who I knew from the first time I met him had something special, continues to inspire all of us."

    Hasselbeck of `The View' is pregnant again NEW YORK (AP) _ Elisabeth Hasselbeck of "The View" and her husband, Tim, who played for the Arizona Cardinals, are about to be outnumbered. Hasselbeck announced Thursday on the ABC daytime chat show that she's pregnant with her third child, due in August. She said: "We are thankful for such great news and will begin planning our zone defense strategy immediately."

    British songwriter John Martyn dead at 60 LONDON (AP) _ British singer-songwriter John Martyn, whose soulful songs were covered by the likes of Eric Clapton, died Thursday. He was 60. Martyn's official Web site said the musician, who lived in Ireland, died Thursday morning. It did not give a cause of death.

    Nederlander sure 'Thriller' feud will be resolved LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Broadway producer James L. Nederlander says he's hopeful a legal duel over "Thriller" rights can be resolved. John Landis, who directed the iconic music video, sued Nederlander and former collaborator Michael Jackson in Santa Monica, Calif., on Wednesday. His lawsuit states that Landis owns half of the video's dramatic rights and says Jackson doesn't have the proper rights to pursue a deal with Nederlander to bring "Thriller" to Broadway.
