March 5 - EAST PROVIDENCE - MassMutual Financial Group is offering free $ 50,000 life insurance policies to low-income working families. The LifeBridge program is designed to help children with educational expenses, if one parent dies during the term of the policy.
East Providence residents Scott and Edwin E. Bedford Alvarez, both based Providence MassMutual employees, said it 'the company' way of giving back to communities. Starting from their city, Alvarez called and said Mayor Joseph S. Larisa Jr. on LifeBridge - which began in some countries in 2002, but wasn''t pushed vigorously until recently.
"Usually, if it seems too good to be true, it is", Larisa night 'said Tuesday the City Council meeting. "There is an exception to that."
To be eligible, a parent or legal guardian must be in good health, aged between 19 and 42, and one or more children under 18 years. The person must also be currently employed, full time or part-time and family income must be between $ 10,000 and $ 40,000.
Eligible persons receive a term of 10 years to life without attachments, and other locations to buy more insurance, and Larisa Alvarez said.
If the mother dies during the 10 years, MassMutual establishes a trust for the dependent (s) to be used for educational needs - such as books, tuition and campus room and pension for preschool, private school, high school, college, graduate school or other educational institution.
The children age 35 until use all the money.
"It'sa good program," said Larissa. "There 'no reason not to enjoy it."
MassMutual plans to issue policies in December 20000. Nearly 9,000 have been issued at national level so far.
"We are aware that all children - including yours - are the future of our country," the brochure of the company 'bed. "And the more educated are our future leaders, they will be better prepared to help meet the challenges of tomorrow."
To apply or obtain more information, contact Alvarez at (401) 457-7310 or Bedford (401) 457-7361. More information and eligibility forms can be obtained at the company 'Web site - www.massmutual.com / lifebridge.
