ABSTRACT
Maria has 40 years, from Washington Heights in Upper Manhattan. She was repeatedly receiving a bill, a local hospital for his recent visit to the ER. Maria is not insured and could not afford the $ 191.00 charge. She was afraid and I did not know where to go for help. Fortunately, Maria MCCAP NYC - New York City Managed Care Assistance Program for consumption - which quickly decided that she was eligible for public health insurance, helped to obtain coverage, and ensures that the project bill was paid by the hospital. MCCAP thank you to NYC, we were able to ensure that Maria is one thing less to worry about during these financial difficulties.
The diversity of NYC MCCAP network enables it to provide services in 12 languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Haitian Creole, Yiddish, Korean, Polish, Urdu, Hindi and American Sign Language). Nearly 70 percent of clients MCCAP speak a language other than English at home, more than 60 percent were born outside the United States. Two thirds of all customers are MCCAP NYC racial or ethnic minorities.
NYC MCCAP also support critical health through education workshops and counseling sessions. To date, NYC MCCAP has reached more than 117,000 New Yorkers through workshops and one to one support counseling sessions. This is one of more than 100,000 New Yorkers MCCAP NYC has contributed over the last ten years. It can help you navigate the complex health care system. MCCAP NYC is a program of the Community Service Society. It is funded by the Council of the City of New York and is administered by the city Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
NYC MCCAP services are essential simply because the insurance is not enough. Obtaining affordable health insurance is important, but it is only a first step. Many of those who have health insurance, do not understand how to use it effectively. Without this knowledge, people are not receiving the health services they deserve.
NYC MCCAP helps consumers obtain health insurance; educates New Yorkers about how to use their plans for health care management to get the care they need, inform consumers of their rights in the management care plans, and provides tools on how to resolve problems with their health plans, such as payment disputes.
Reaching Out
The program is essential to meet the many New Yorkers who can not get health insurance through their jobs. This includes 60 percent of low income black workers and 71 percent of low-income Latino workers.
NYC MCCAP reached impenetrable communities. The strength of this program derives from the relationship with our community partners. These organizations are trusted resources in their respective communities, and individuals who may not always seek help for health issues go to them for help.
Services are provided through a network of 26 community organizations in the five boroughs. These agencies have been trained to conduct workshops for quality education and to provide individualized advice to people who face barriers to accessing health care services.
NYC MCCAP is able to eradicate systemic issues through its network of community partners, which serves as the eyes and ears of the policy implementation. These organizations provide critical feedback in real time to inform the continuing development of health policy and public programming punished.

The West Side Campaign against Hunger is located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It primarily serves the homeless, people with mental and physical disabilities, and low-income groups, provides assistance in English and Spanish. Besides health care, contributes to financial assistance, food stamps and housing.
Flushing, Queens
South Asia Council of Social Services is located in Flushing, Queens. It serves the members of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Maldives) and Indo-Caribbean (Guyana, Trinidad, and Suriname) communities in the city of New York.
It offers assistance in Bengali, Arabic, Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu. In addition to health care, it provides ESOL classes, vocational training, and parents' empowerment programs.
NYC MCCAP also support critical health through education workshops and counseling sessions. Obstacles and challenges
Poor health is often a factor that affects a person's ability to find and maintain employment. We know through our annual survey of low-income New Yorkers, The Unheard Third, that health issues are a major obstacle for people looking for a job. Among respondents with low income who are unemployed, 38 percent say health problems are the most difficult factor in finding a job. Another barrier to health care financing, financing MCCAP through City Council. In difficult economic times, we face the possibility of cutbacks in the program MCCAP.
In helping New Yorkers for their own health insurance effectively, NYC MCCAP allows more people to improve their health. This is good for all New Yorkers. Access to quality health care is a public health issue that affects us all.
