PLAYA VISTA, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Progressive Insurance Automotive X PRIZE, a competition of several million dollars to inspire a new generation of viable, super fuel-efficient vehicles, today announced the official list 111 teams registered.
After passing this first wave of work, these teams will move a step closer to competing for their share of $ 10 million purse that the prize will be awarded to teams that win a rigorous long distance stage competition and can exceed 100 MPG equivalent fuel (mPGES).
The teams, which together account for 136 vehicles, with 14 inputs of energy, the various groups of 25 U.S. states and 11 countries. Establishment of automobiles, new start-ups, universities and inventors are among those represented. Six teams of registration remain confidential.
In the coming months, teams of registration will be subject to the design judging on the basis of a detailed presentation of measurement data, which will provide information on their vehicle € ™ s characteristics, production capacity, security and business plans. Those who spend Judging Design moves into the test phase performance and participate in a test series which starts in May 2010. The winners will be announced in 2010.
The start date of competition, the number of sites, and geographical locations will be established before July 2009.

Earlier this year the competition has announced details of a demonstration of the division specifically designed for large, established car manufacturers to introduce their latest fuel-efficient vehicles. The entry in this division will remain open until the summer.
