WASHINGTON - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The National Trust for Historic Preservation and Fireman € ™ s Fund Insurance Company today launched a € œThe Place Matters, â €? a site for sharing photos on the campaign to empower Americans to weigh on the places they deem important architectural or cultural. People across the country will be able to send stories and photos using social media sites Flickr and Google Maps emphasizing personal, regional and national places that matter to them. The campaign, made possible by the Fireman € ™ s Fund ® will take place throughout 2009. This Place Matters
â € œThe Place Mattersâ €? featuring places large and small, famous and infamous â € "and even relatively obscure â €" which collectively represent the nationality € ™ s cultural awareness. Stories an overview of the heritage in their family, neighborhood identity and diversity of American experience. The campaign aims to raise € ™ sites visibility and emphasize the need for their preservation.
â € œEvery day, dozens of local landmarks are lost, creating holes in the heart of communities, â €? Said Richard Moe, president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. â € œ "This Place Mattersâ € ™ indicates that the site everyday â €" whether a school district, downtown shop or the house of a local hero â € "are as important as national icons saying Americae € ™ s story.â €?
People are invited to www.preservationNation.org / thisplacematters, download a â € œThe Place Mattersâ €? sign, take a picture or video of themselves with the sign in front of a place that counts for them, and then send it to â € œThe Place Mattersâ €? Website. Contributors may also choose to send a photo stories on This Place Matters Google map.
â € œThe Place Mattersâ €? is also the theme of the Month of conservation, in May 2009. Http://www.preservationnation.org The website offers tools, activities and discussion forums. Site visitors can share stories about what they do in their community in celebration of Preservation Month. Students are invited to learn more about the preservation work of their peers in the preservationist œTeaching â € €? blog and discuss what they are doing to save places in their own community in œBlackboardâ â € €? forum.
