Market Definition
The global life & health insurance profile covers companies providing primarily health insurance, and life insurance and savings products. This profile includes companies regardless of whether they are in private or publicly ownership. However contributions made to the state social insurance are not included. This report excludes managed care companies classified in the Managed Health Care sub-industry.
Market value reflects gross written premium (GWP) for life and health insurance. The market share is calculated on the basis of direct premiums written (GWP) for life insurance prior to cession to the reinsurers. Premium volumes have been converted to US dollars at the 2008 annual average exchange rate.
The life insurance market depends on a variety of economic factors and future performance is difficult to predict. The forecast given in this report is not based on a complex economic model, but is intended as a rough guide to the direction in which the market is likely to move. This forecast is based on a correlation between past market growth and growth of base drivers, such as disposable personal incomes, GDP growth and long-term interest rates.
