Kimball International Recognized by Liberty Mutual; Receives Vice President’s Award for Safety

Kimball's selection by Liberty Mutual reflects further recognition of Kimball Electronics, a 2009 winner of the Indiana Governor's Workplace Safety Award, for their "Early Intervention Program", and their commitment to worker safety and health. This innovative approach promotes early recognition and mitigation of repetitive motion injuries, decreasing incident rates and workers' compensation costs. Liberty Mutual's National Market regional management team presented the award at the June 10th dinner event.
The Vice President's Safety Award is notable in that it is not customer initiated, meaning a company cannot submit an application for consideration. Liberty Mutual initiates the award based upon its own internal review of its customers' programs and safety records, bestowing honors only when it deems warranted. The award presented to Kimball is one of three such awards presented to all Liberty Mutual National Market customers since January 2008.
Don Nolte, Account Service Manager, National Market, and Sue Gillette, Service Director, Loss Control Advisory Services, both officials from Liberty Mutual, presented the award to Kimball management and employees at a special ceremony held in the Kimball Electronics facility in Jasper, to underscore the important role played by every individual.
Vince Cooke, Director of Safety, Kimball International, noted, "Our goal is to create, build and establish safety in every process. The recognition of an award of this caliber enables us to show employees that their efforts really do count. Our safety record is an indicator of organizational excellence."
At Kimball, safety is a company-wide priority. The Company promotes awareness and educational campaigns among employees with the goal of eliminating exposures - or risks - that create unsafe conditions and behaviors. Kimball facilities and operations must not only comply with local safety regulations, but must also meet the requirements of Kimball's own internal standards, passing annual assessments. While each Kimball facility or operation is responsible for its own safety efforts and performance, they are all linked in their programs and processes on a common corporate safety philosophy, supported by a corporate team of experts and strong management commitment. However, employee participation is key to reaching such milestones.
