"Health plans that step forward to participate in NCQA's New Health Plan Accreditation program early on in their history are to be especially commended," said Margaret E. O'Kane, NCQA president. "Our standards are rigorous, and by meeting them, Molina Healthcare of Texas has shown that it is well designed and serious about the quality of care it provides."
Molina Healthcare continues to be among the leaders in NCQA Accreditations with seven accredited health plans in California, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, Texas, Utah and Washington. Currently, 22% of the nation's Medicaid plans are NCQA Accredited. Molina Healthcare's subsidiary health plans make up 9% of the NCQA Accredited Medicaid organizations.
"The team at our Texas health plan is well-deserving of this honor," said J. Mario Molina, MD, president and chairman of Molina Healthcare, Inc. "As one of the industry leaders in NCQA Accreditation, the Accreditation of our Texas health plan further solidifies our leadership position and confirms our commitment to providing high quality care for the underserved. Quality health care remains our top priority."
Molina Healthcare of Texas was granted an HMO license in 2005. The health plan serves approximately 33,000 members in 13 counties.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to improving health care quality. NCQA's New Health Plan Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that purchasers, regulators and consumers can use to assess managed care plans. It is a rigorous and comprehensive review process through which NCQA assesses the quality of the key systems and processes that define health care organizations. The accreditation evaluates how well a new health plan manages all parts of its delivery system"”physicians, hospitals, other providers and administrative services"”in order to continuously improve health care for its members. The thorough review consists of an on-and-off-site review of the organization by a team of physicians and managed care experts. NCQA's New Health Plan Accreditation Program applies to health plans that are less than 36 months old and is distinct from NCQA's Health Plan Accreditation Program.
