Barnum Financial Group, an office of MetLife and the Foundation for Life, Inc., will present 50 deserving children with new bicycles and helmets during its Annual "Bikes for Kids" event. Volunteers for the Foundation for Life, Inc. will place bikes and helmets around the Bridgeport Bluefish infield on August 22 to be presented to the kids prior to that day's game start-time, to a group of youngsters who are not aware that they will be receiving a bike.
The children selected will be from various federally funded organizations in greater Bridgeport who work in conjunction with Project Safe Neighborhoods.
This is the second Bikes for Kids event held by the Foundation for Life, Inc. this year. In July, the organization presented 150 children with bikes and helmets at the New Britain Rock Cats Stadium.
Paul Blanco, Managing Director of Barnum Financial Group and founder of the Foundation for Life, has worked extensively to improve opportunities for young people and to expand their horizons. Blanco was introduced to Bikes for Kids several years ago through the founders of the Bikes for Kids Foundation, Bill and Debbie Pollakov. The program was launched in San Diego, CA as a way for inner-city children to explore neighborhoods and other cultures within close proximity to where they live. Bikes for Kids has since expanded to Utah, Minnesota, Louisiana, and now most recently Connecticut!
