With the start of a new school year swiftly approaching, the team at Sallop Insurance Agency decided to contribute their time and donations to the underprivileged children of Massachusetts by participating in "Operation Backpack." This fundraising event was sponsored by Volunteers of America which is one of the nation's largest nonprofit providers of quality affordable housing for families, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Volunteers of America is currently a client of Sallop Insurance as it owns and operates an Assisted Living facility in Concord, MA. If you would like to find out more about Volunteers of America please visit: www.voa.org.

The opportunity to participate was first brought forward by Kathy Ludka who is a Senior Account Executive for the VOA's Concord Park Assisted Living facility. She and Liz Finn-Elder, Vice President, both agreed that Operation Backpack was a great charity event and a wonderful team-building opportunity for Sallop. "Operation Backpack" gives homeless children and low income families the chance to start the school year off well prepared, with a new backpack and new school supplies. Each member of Sallop generously contributed, and then as a group, bought and assembled 20 backpacks for children ranging from Pre-K2 to High School. In addition to the individual employee contributions, Sallop Insurance corporately also donated over $500 in supplies to fill the packs.

The Backpacks were delivered to the Massachusetts Volunteers of America office in Jamaica Plain and will be distributed by the organization to the children in need. The Sallop team is looking forward to the opportunity of working together on future fundraising campaigns. "The enthusiasm and participation of the entire staff was truly moving. We very much enjoyed the team building experience of giving back, but the best is yet to come. When we see those little kids going back to school on their first day, we will all secretly know that, today, we made a difference in a young person's life," says Gina Matarazzo, Vice President, Sallop Insurance.
