The Sedalia City Council is expected to take action on an insurance carrier for city employees and an ordinance that would increase the fee for variance applications.

Council members are scheduled to meet in committee meetings at 6:40 p.m. Monday in the mayor's conference room in City Hall, 200 S. Osage Ave. They will convene at 7 p.m. in council chambers. Both meetings are open to the public.

City staff is recommending a switch in health insurance providers from Blue Cross/Blue Shield to Midwest Public Risk. According to the agenda, Midwest Public Risk has a lower monthly premium with improved benefits. Also, the company provides vision insurance at no additional cost to the city or employees.

The council will review an agreement with Guardian life Insurance Co. for life and dental insurance.

Other items on the agenda include an ordinance that would increase the fee for variance applications from $50 to $300. The Board of Adjustments is recommending the increase to offset the costs of notifying adjacent property owners. Under the change, a notice will be placed in the newspaper and neighboring property owners within 185 feet will receive information about the public hearing via certified mail.
