"IRDA has decided to make available samples of transaction level data on motor and health insurance on its website to facilitate research on non-life insurance," IRDA said in a statement.
The insurance watchdog has been collecting transaction level non-life insurance data on motor and health from insurers and third party administrators.
For motor insurance, data on policy, own damage claims and third party claims is collected while data on policy, members and claims are collected for health insurance.
"One lakh records of each...randomly selected from the data received by IRDA from insurers (totalling to six lakhs records), are placed on the website," IRDA said.
It, however, said that in order to maintain the confidentiality and to protect the business interests of the data providers, some of the fields are masked in the data set.
"It may be noted that the records are randomly selected and are as received by IRDA. IRDA does not guarantee the accuracy, adequacy or completeness of any information and is not responsible for any errors, omissions in the data," the insurance regulator said.
