China's five social insurance funds received CNY 953.4 billion payments in total during the first three quarters of 2009, with a 15.4% rise year on year, Yin Chengji, a spokesman with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of China, announced at a recent news conference.

The basic pension fund had covered 228.57 million people by the end of September, up 9.66 million at the end of the prior year; the basic medicare fund 362.95 million, up 44.73 million; the unemployment insurance fund 124.92 million, up 920,000; the employment injury insurance fund 144.84 million, up 6.97 million, and the maternity insurance fund 103.14 million, up 10.60 million.

In the nine months, China sufficiently paid CNY 581.5 billion basic pension on time, with a 16.4% rise year on year. By the end of September, 2.484 million people had taken unemployment insurance aids; the unemployment insurance fund had reached an expenditure of CNY 21.91 billion, with a 31% rise year on year; and the basic medicare, employment injury insurance, and maternity insurance funds had paid CNY 208.4 billion, with a 29.9% rise year on year.
