The reform of the health coverage against a restriction of abortion rights. Despite the efforts of the leader of the Democratic Party in the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, herself pro-abortion text flagship Barack Obama could not overcome its first major step at the cost of a major concession to anti-abortions within his own party. One episode recounted in detail in The New York Times.
Faced with threats to block text-to ultimately voted by a narrow majority, Nancy Pelosi has had to accept an amendment of Bart Stupak, Michigan Democrat and leader of the anti-abortions party. This amendment prohibits any reimbursement of intervention if the insurance of the patient was obtained through a grant of any state. In France, abortion is repaid.
"This amendment is the biggest restriction on women's right to choose to go during our career," said Democrat Diana DeGette, who left furious, Saturday evening, the office of Nancy Pelosi after his final concession.
Diana DeGette, like other Democrats who denounced the amendment finally passed the reform, promising to fight this provision before the Senate vote.
