The Shanxi bureau of the China Insurance Regulatory Commission said that as of Nov. 16, domestic insurers have filed 14,683 claims related to snowstorms that blanketed northern China, with estimated losses of 142 million yuan (US$20.8 million).

Of the total claims, 98% been investigated, and 22% have been closed. The regulator noted domestic insurers have paid more than 6.75 million yuan in claims as of Nov. 16.

Among the largest claims, a domestic branches of PICC Property & Casualty Insurance Co. [77633] underwrote a Shanxi-based glass manufacturing company, which has an estimated loss of 5 million yuan. Taikang Life Insurance Co. [77638] recorded an individual accident indemnity with a paid claim of 40,000 yuan.
