Christmas Shoppers seek out gift bargains overseas

According to new research from Post Office Travel Services, overseas trips for Christmas shopping may help UK shoppers' pounds stretch further. With sterling edging up in value against the dollar and remaining relatively strong against some currencies in Eastern Europe, shopping abroad may prove tempting - especially when combined with the prospect of a unique city sightseeing trip.

Post Office Travel Insurance is reminding shoppers heading overseas that gifts bought abroad may add a significant amount to the level of travel insurance cover required for their trip, and is recommending that people check the baggage cover on their existing travel insurance policy to ensure it offers sufficient cover.

The Post Office's travel insurance policy, for example, covers a single item up to the maximum value of GBP300 (including jewellery and clothing). If cover is required above this level, Post Office Travel Insurance can provide an extended baggage travel insurance to cover items up to GBP1,500, excluding jewellery.

In addition to ensuring adequate travel insurance is in place Post Office Travel Insurance is also advising travellers to keep all receipts in case an accident of theft results in the need to make a travel insurance claim.
