Yet another Australian parliamentary inquiry into the corporate liquidation industry will be held. However, this latest one has a distinctive difference in that it will also cover the role played by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC). It had recently gained criticism related to high-profile collapses of investment vehicles. It is also not disclosing any data on its investigations of the liquidation industry, which is largely self-regulating. Even some breaches of section 1284(1) of the Corporations Act on professional indemnity and fidelity insurance have gone undetected or unpunished by ASIC.
