ASSETS OF INDONESIA'S INSURANCE INDUSTRY UP 145.6% IN Q1

The assets of Indonesia's insurance industry shot up 145.6 per cent to Rp347.49 trillion (US$37.7 billion) in the first quarter of this year from Rp141.46 trillion a year before.
Commercial insurance assets made up 55.6 per cent or Rp193.57 trillion and social insurance assets accounted for 44.4 per cent of the total assets.
Social insurance assets include workers' securities, health and life insurance under state companies, the capital market and financial institution watchdog Bapepam said.
Higher increase in assets was recorded mainly in life insurance assets up to Rp151.76 trillion in the first quarter of this year from Rp104.95 trillion a year before.
Isa Rachmatarwata, the insurance division head of Bapepam, described the country's insurance performance as encouraging.
