Pelosi Statement on Beginning of GOP Repeal of Patients' Rights Debate
Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Republicans on the Rules Committee voted to consider legislation repealing patients' rights legislation on the House floor:
"Republicans are rushing a bill to the floor that would repeal the rights of patients, including children with pre-existing conditions, pregnant women, young people on their parents' insurance and seniors. Doing so would put insurance companies back in charge of the health of the American people and, according to the nonpartisan CBO, add $230 billion to the deficit.
"Democrats will judge what comes before Congress by whether it creates jobs, strengthens our middle class, and reduces the deficit. On all three of these tests, the repeal of patients' rights fails."
