Judge Charles G. Bernstein sentenced Clark-Grisson to two years of supervised probation for filing false claims with TransAmerica Life Insurance Company where she had a disability insurance policy.
The investigation revealed that between May 22, 2007 and July 22, 2008, Clark-Grisson submitted three false claims to TransAmerica and a variety of false documents to support the claims for lost wages and medical reimbursement. The total amount paid to her was $3,660. TransAmerica discovered the fraud when it attempted to verify her lost wages with the Maryland Department of Corrections.
Clark-Grisson's employment was terminated and she re-paid the money to the insurer.
The conviction follows a joint investigation by the Insurance Fraud Division of the Maryland Insurance Administration and the Office of the Attorney General. In making today's announcement, Attorney General Gansler thanked Assistant Attorney General Bernard Taylor for his work on the case.
