The new agreement allows Tulsa Life Flight to expand its services in eastern Oklahoma by implementing a community-based model for operations compared to the hospital-based operation currently in place.
The community model will involve placement of two to three helicopters within a 50-mile radius of Saint Francis Hospital and St. John Medical Center, extending air ambulance service to more communities in the area allowing for faster medical response.
“The expansion of the Life Flight’s critical air ambulance service further advances our objective of bringing the hospital to the patient when time matters most,” said Charles Anderson, chief executive officer of St. John Medical Center.
Air Methods, Inc. has worked in partnership with Saint Francis Health System and St. John Health System to operate Tulsa Life Flight since 2002 by supplying the helicopters, pilots and maintenance of the aircraft. Under the new agreement, the company will now employ the clinical personnel and assume full operation of the program.
