Indonesian insurer PT Panin Life almost doubled its premium income to Rp1.15 trillion (US$135 million) in the first half of the year from the same period last year. Simon Imanto, the vice president of the life insurance company, said premium from new policyholders accounted for Rp1.01 trillion of the total income. The premium income in the January-June period was precisely 50 per cent of the company's premium income target for the year, Simon said. The assets of the company rose 36 per cent to Rp3.5 trillion from Rp2.56 trillion a year earlier with net profit rising 23 per cent to Rp30 billion.
