The greater frequency of disasters for a decade has resulted in insurers to pay homeowners and businesses about $ 25.2 billion in property losses in 2008, according to analysis by ISO Property Claim Services Unit .
Insured property losses in 2008 were the fourth highest in 10 years. Fourth quarter despite a relatively quiet in terms of disasters, PCS reported tropical storms, tornadoes and other weather phenomena reported were 37 catastrophic events.
The State which took the brunt of the damage was Texas, victims of hurricanes Ike and Dolly. Gary Kerney, Assistant Vice President of the PCS, said there were several characteristics to last year catastrophic weather events, including the six tropical systems - Dolly Eduoard, Fay, Hanna, Gustav and Ike - have hit the ground in Texas to Virginia.
"Unusually frequent tornado hit and insured property damage contributed to record frequency and losses in the first six months of 2008," Kerney said in a statement.
It is estimated that the hurricanes caused $ 13.3 billion in insured losses in 2008, PCS said. The events include tornadoes, winds, hail and flooding caused $ 10.5 billion in damages.
