New data on repair costs of hybrid vehicles featuring AUDATEX Directions, Publication of the automotive industry for insurers, collision repairers and recycling
SAN DIEGO, Feb. 9 / PRNewswire / - AUDATEX North America Inc. today announced the winter 2009 volume of its industry trends publication, AUDATEX Directions.
The last article in this issue provides an in-depth exploration of the factors that determine the hybrid repair costs. AUDATEX vehicle repair data shows that on average in 2008, the Toyota Prius costs 8.4 percent more than gasoline to repair the economy fueled by imports, while gasoline hybrid vehicles which have on average 3.8 percent more to repair than their counterparts.
AUDATEX data show that the modifications made by the manufacturers in efforts to reduce the weight of a hybrid vehicle or better accommodate the hybrid system may lead to cost increases beyond $ 100 per unit. These changes include double roller cooling radiators and to support the hybrid system and the integration of the wings and bonnets aluminum bumper aluminum rails, modified airbag control modules, and redesigned grills and headlamp / sets of rear lights. These subtle differences in design can translate into higher prices, the costs of repair and partial replacement of limited availability.
Also examined in AUDATEX Directions economy is the impact on new vehicle sales and actual cash values. AUDATEX data show that from September to November 2008, the actual cash decreased by 7.3 percent to a level that has declined by 5.9 percent compared to November 2007. Supreme luxury, vehicles, large pickup trucks and large SUVs suffered the greatest decline in value.
Because the efficiency of business processes are mandatory in 2009, a new series of articles on the Lean Six Sigma for collision repair is introduced in this edition. The series describes how Lean methods store can help improve productivity, customer satisfaction and business growth potential.
