DES PLAINES, Illinois, March 31 / PRNewswire-USNewswire / - A new report by the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) shows that motorcycle thefts are similar trends in response to good news about their four-wheeled cousins. In 2008, a total of 60,763 motorcycles were stolen in the U.S. That number is down 2.3 per cent of 62 .206 in 2007 and 4.8 per cent of 63 .828 in 2006.
The report clearly shows that motorcycle theft is more seasonal than other vehicle theft activity. July and August the most connected while flights in December, January and February have the least.
There are 684 different brands of motorcycles registered in the report, but only five reports 150,183 - 80.4 percent - of total flights. The first five were: Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Harley-Davidson.
The five states most bike theft activity are: California, Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Indiana. These States reported 72,619 flights, or 38.9 percent of the total.
Although the flights are down, recoveries are down as well, mirroring a trend that began in 2006 when the recovery rate of stolen vehicles has fallen below 60 percent (59.0 ) for the first time in more than 10 years.
The five States for the recovery of stolen bikes are: California, Florida, Texas, North Carolina and Maryland.
