Chicago, IL (PRWEB) April 24, 2009 -- "Whether a first time shopper or long time policy holder, it is very important to know all of the options before you shop for car insurance in state of Illinois" said (ISIA) Director, Greg Tosto.
According to a recent survey commissioned by (ISIA) more than 75% of Illinoisans are overpaying their Illinois auto insurance premium due to high deductible price, while 51.2% of those who were surveyed did not even know what the deductible even means.
"Low deductible on vehicle insurance may be costing Illinoisans more money," continues Tosto "not properly or at all explained term 'deductible' is the amount consumer pays when making an insurance claim before insurance provider pays. There are several reasons why deductible even exist.
"The consumer will not know and most of them don't even ask about anything else but the final price what they should pay every month, however it is agencies duty to provide and educate the consumer of (pros and cons) about any of the insurance services they are providing the public with." However, even that final step, or better say before the last signature is made, the price could still be reduced drastically.
There are many expenses that are associated while processing an insurance claim; however the expenses of processing many minor claims are lowered for insurance providers.
An insurance carrier does pass the savings to their customers if they increase the deductible higher through lower premiums.
Just by covering the minor claims themselves the consumer avoids any claims surcharge while keeping much needed claims-free discounts.
