NAMIC Names David Scott as Legislator of the Year

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies on Monday presented the Federal Legislator of the Year Award to United States Rep. David Scott, D-Georgia, at its Annual Convention in Atlanta.

“A respected member of the House Financial services Committee, Congressman Scott has a great understanding and appreciation of the role and function of property/casualty insurance,” said Chuck Chamness, NAMIC’s president and CEO.

Now in his fourth term in Washington after serving 28 years in the Georgia Legislature, Rep. Scott. has taken a leadership role on many insurance issues. He is the primary sponsor of the NARAB II legislation in the 111th Congress, H.R. 2554, which would establish licensing reciprocity for insurance producers that operate in multiple states.

“One of our greatest opportunities to help make a difference comes when we recognize those in our industry for jobs well done,” Chamness said “That opportunity exists not just for industry professionals who have significant impacts on our business environment. Because of this, we want to show our appreciation for those who promote positive regulatory and legislative policy. It is my pleasure to announce the recipient of the fifth annual NAMIC Federal Legislator of the Year Award, Rep. David Scott of Georgia.”

The NAMIC Legislator of the Year Award is a statuette of Benjamin Franklin, who founded the first successful mutual insurance company in America more than 250 years ago. That company, the Philadelphia Contributionship for Insurance of Houses from Loss by Fire, is still thriving as The Contributionship Companies and remains a NAMIC member today.
