Eight members from St. Louis area Boys & Girls Clubs will experience a once-in-a-lifetime moment as they take to the field with eight of the biggest sluggers in Major League Baseball during the 2009 State Farm Home Run Derby on Monday, July 13 at Busch Stadium for a chance to win $50,000 for a teen center at their local Club. The State Farm Home Run Derby will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT (8:00 p.m. ET) on Monday, July 13.

Each of the eight Boys & Girls Clubs members participating will be matched with a participant in the State Farm Home Run Derby, with the Club member who is paired with the State Farm Home Run Derby winner earning $50,000 for a teen center at their Club. For each of the other seven Club members paired with State Farm Home Run Derby participants, State Farm will make a $10,000 donation to their Club toward a teen center.

“Nothing’s more important than being there for the community,” said Mark Gibson, Assistant Vice President of Advertising for State Farm. “State Farm is so happy to be able to contribute to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America with the donations raised during the Home Run Derby and by creating big moments for Club members throughout the event.”

“Thanks to the generosity of our partners, we are able to provide high-impact programs that enable young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens,” said Roxanne Spillett, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. “We are so thankful for all that State Farm and Major League Baseball have done to provide opportunities for our local Boys & Girls Clubs and the children and teens they serve.”

As part of a continued effort to support Boys & Girls Clubs of America and local communities it serves, State Farm and Major League Baseball are “Going Beyond” at the 2009 State Farm Home Run Derby. In addition to the Gold Ball home run which generates $17,000 from State Farm and Major League Baseball for every Gold Ball home run hit in Busch Stadium, State Farm will donate $5,000 for all other home runs hit throughout the Derby.
