With a quarter of Brits over 50 typically holidaying twice a year, many people could benefit from taking out an annual travel insurance policy.
According to research conducted by Saga, seven million people enjoy going abroad each year, with the majority doing so more than once.
It found that people moving towards retirement age are less likely to get bored while overseas but urged holidaymakers to consider the type of holiday on which they are embarking when choosing the length of their stay.
Andrew Goodsell, chief executive of the Saga Group, highlighted the importance of choosing the right destination for the "optimum length of time" to get the most from a holiday.
"Whether you enjoy a short weekend break in the UK or a fortnight's holiday somewhere exotic, don't forget to take out travel insurance to remove the stress should an unforeseen event happen while you are away," he said.
Last month, holidaymakers heading to the Channel Islands were reminded that they will no longer be privy to free healthcare without a travel insurance policy.
