New figures from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) suggest that there is a growing demand for budget domestic holidays at present, but this should not dissuade people from purchasing travel insurance.

According to the financial services company, the popularity of campsites and caravan parks has risen by 12 per cent this year - a factor which leads it to suggest that nearly a third of Brits (29 per cent) are now taking such holidays.

Responding to the new research, a trade body for Britain's tourism industry suggested that camping and holiday parks might be low-cost but they also provide good value for money.

That's the issue - it's not about staying in a wet, dreary field with no facilities, we're talking about highly developed products...most of these places have got entertainment on-site," explained Peter Hampson, director of the British Resorts & Destinations.
