The number of travel insurance policies taken out by consumers will not decline greatly in 2009, as a holiday provider has revealed that European destinations are still popular with families.

Travelsupermarket.com has disclosed that holiday resorts located on the continent remain significantly in demand this year, despite the recession, as they offer a range of "activities and facilities".

In addition, the site, which allows consumers to compare flight and accommodation costs, disclosed that just lower than 49 per cent of parents in the UK admitted to taking their children on holiday during term time.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert at travelsupermarket.com, outlined the particular areas were demand remain high.

He said: "All the main European destinations are popular like Spain [as well as] classic places like the Balearics, the Greek islands, Turkey, Egypt and Florida."

Yesterday (May 13th), the Post Office revealed that Croatia is fast becoming British consumers' holiday choice for 2009, thanks to its favourable exchange rate.ADNFCR-1320-ID-19169491-ADNFCR
