As recent research reveals a booming UK birth rate and also an increase in expectant parents travelling abroad on 'babymoons' , Post Office Travel Insurance (http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/jump2?catId=63300708&mediaId=19300208)is urging mums to be to check their holiday insurance (www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=98600764&mediaId=98600766) policies before they depart.
Travelling after a certain stage in pregnancy can be considered high risk because the chance of women going into labour increases . In fact, some travel operators and airlines recommend that pregnant women should carefully evaluate their need to travel during the third trimester of pregnancy (after 28 weeks) and many travel insurance providers stipulate that mums-to-be travelling abroad should return to the UK eight weeks before their due date .
The advice from Post Office Travel Insurance to any mums-to-be planning a pre-baby holiday is to check carefully any existing travel insurance policy, as well as with any airline, before heading to the airport. If travellers are in any doubt whether they fully comply with the terms and conditions of the travel insurance policy and are adequately covered for overseas travel, the Post Office advises checking with travel insurance providers.
